6-7 days tour: Athens – Korinthos – Sounio – one day cruise

1st day: Athens – City Tour Transfer airport to hotel. Half day tour begins with a panoramic drive around Syntagma square, passing by National Garden, Hadrian’s Arch, St. Paul’s Church, Parliament, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Catholic Cathedral,and Schliemann’s House. You will then drive past the Athens Trilogy which includes the University of Athens, the Academy of Athens, and the National Library. Your licensed guide will explain more of Athens’s history old and new as you look at these stately buildings. You will have the opportunity to take a tast of Athens by walking in the central roads.

2nd day: Athens full day
Athens is a city full of remarkable monuments and great historical places such as the Acropolis, Parthenon, Agora, Temple of Zeus, the first Olympic stadium and many more. This tour will give you the opportunity to observe the striking contrasts of ancient and modern that make Athens such a fascinating city.
We start the tour by visiting the so called “sacred rock”, the Acropolis. Here you will see the Parthenon that was dedicated to goddess Athena (Parthenos), Propylea, the monumental entrance to the sacred area, the temple of Athena Nike which was dedicated to Athena-Nike (Victory) the Erechtheion with its famous female figures-statues the Caryatides or Maidens dedicated to both goddess Athena and god Poseidon. The Odeum of Herodus Atticus and the ruins of the first theatre in the whole world the Theatre of Dionysus and finally the Areopagus (Mars Hill). We will proceed to the Temple of Olympian Zeus (visit) and then to Panathenaic or Kallimarmaro Stadium which hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 (short visit). We will drive by the Prime Minister’s Residence (Maximou Mansion), the former Royal Palace, today the Presidential Mansion and the House of Parliament with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (short stop so as to watch the changing of the guards). We continue our tour by driving up to the highest point of Athens, the Lycabettus Hill (the best 360 degree panoramic view of Athens). From Lycabettus Hill we’ll proceed to the oldest and most picturesque neighbourhood of Athens, Plaka (stone-paved narrow streets, traditional Greek tavernas -best gyros- antique and souvenir stores) and the Tower of the Winds. After lunch in Plaka we’ll drive through the city centre to the area of the Flea Market (street bazaar, antique stores) where we’ll visit the Ancient Agora (the political, financial and commercial centre of ancient Athens). There we’ll see the temple of Hephaistos, known also as Theseum (best preserved ancient temple in Greece) and the Stoa of Attalos (an ancient shopping centre) which was restored in the fifties by the American Archaeological School. It is a peaceful and inspiring site and especially in Spring when everything is in full bloom one’s spirit lifts! Our tour will be completed with our visit to the National Archaeological Museum, the biggest museum in Greece with one of the most extensive and important archaeological collections in the world. It houses, among other important exhibits, the frescoes of the island of Santorini and the prehistoric golden collection of Mycenae with the famous mask of Agamemnon. OR with a visit to the New Acropolis Museum, "Home" of the Parthenon Marbles and important and impressive archaeological findings from the sacred rock of the Acropolis.

3rd day: cruise Poros- Hydra.- Egina (Aegina) Take a day cruise from Athens to the fabulous Greek islands of Hydra, Poros and Aegina for a relaxing day on the sea. With all your transport, transfers and buffet lunch organized, you can sit back and enjoy your leisurely day cruise with free time on each island to explore. After transferring from Athens to Piraeus by motor coach, you'll set sail for the island of Poros, where you'll have free time for strolling and shopping. Next, it's on to the island of Hydra. You will have about 1 hour and 45 minutes at leisure to enjoy the unique charms of Hydra island, whose amphitheater shape once served as a safe shelter for Saronic Pirates. From the decks, you will be able to admire the very special architecture and dramatic landscapes of this island, whose old traditional stone houses and mansions silently stand witness to a long and turbulent history. Upon arrival in Egina (Aegina) you can either join an excursion to the Temple of Aphaia (cost not included) or take a walk around the main town. Aegina is one of the Saronic islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf. The lovely island is only 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Athens, and is a popular getaway for Athenians during the summer months. After sailing back to Piraeus port you'll be transferred to Athens.

4th day: Ancient Corinth Driving along the coastal road, we reach Corinth canal (short stop). Continue our day trip from Athens to the Ancient Corinth. Ancient Corinth was one of the most important cities of ancient Greece. It was to this megalopolis where the Apostle Paul came, worked and established a thriving church, subsequently sending two of his epistles, now part of the New Testament. We will visit the Agora and one of the most outstanding monuments of pre –Roman period, the temple of Apollo. Then we will continue our day tour from Athens to visit one of the most famous vineries of NEMEA. Greece may well possess first place in the hierarchy of countries known for their tradition in viticulture. Not only is this due to Greeks producing wine since the Neolithic Age - 4000 B.C. - but also to the fact that wine has long been adored, praised and chanted in the name of god Dionysus. Nowadays, Greek wine production, abiding by tradition but invigorated by modem technology, offers a wide variety of fine wines. NEMEA is one of the most popular vineyards in Greece. We will visit the state of the art winery facilities. We will learn everything for the production of Greek quality red wine and then we will proceed to the underground cellars with more than 1000 French oak barriques. Finally we will taste some of the best wines of the domain.

5th day: Sounio – Athens In the morning transfer for shopping in the mall and in the afternoon trip from Athens full of images. Begin your Sounio tour with a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf, passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs (Glyfada,Vouliagmeni, Varkiza). As you approach Cape Sounion, it rises like a sheer cliff out of the sea. At Cape Sounio where you will visit the 5th century B.C. Temple of Poseidon with one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world(on a clear day you can see at least seven islands).The precipice is a sheer 197 foot drop to the sea. Land masses to the west stand out in sharp profile: the island of Aegina backed by the mountains of the Peloponnese. The beauty of the surviving Doric columns has inspired many poets, including Lord Byron who carved his name on one of the columns.

6th day: Free day for Leisure

7th day: Transfer from hotel to airport.
